Cambodia's 2009 budget shows increased military spending

PHNOM PENH - Cambodia's National Assembly on Tuesday approved the government's 2009 budget allocating $223 million or 19 percent of the budget to military and security expenditures, an increase of 64 percent over this year.Military and security outlays, which used to account for half of the state budget in the 1990s, have been falling in the past decade with the end of the country's civil war.
